What a Real Succession Plan Looks Like Inside eXp

John Kitchens · Agent Legacy · 2026-10-23

A real succession plan is not a wish that someone will take over your business. It is a named, structured asset that keeps paying after you step back. Here is what that looks like inside eXp.

Most agents run their career on the assumption that someday the book will be worth something. When that day arrives, the book is gone. The only succession plan that works is one that is written down, named, and built while the business is still producing.

The default plan is no plan

Ask ten agents about their succession plan and nine will describe a vague intention. That is not a plan. A plan names a successor, protects the income stream, and survives the day you step back. Everything else is hope with paperwork attached.

How eXp changes the ending

eXp lets you name a successor for your revenue share. That income stream is a willable, designatable asset, so when you step back, the share keeps paying as long as the network you built keeps producing. It does not depend on you selling, and it does not die when you do.

There are rules, and the rules matter. A named successor generally needs to hold a real estate license in good standing and be approved under the program. That is not a reason to skip the plan. It is a reason to build it with people who know the mechanics.

What our coaching adds

We do not just tell you that succession exists. We coach you to build the network that makes it valuable, to protect the relationships that feed it, and to structure the handoff so the asset lands where you intend. The plan is only as good as the business behind it.

A succession plan without a producing network is a certificate with no value behind it.

If you want to build the asset first and name the handoff second, that is exactly the work we do inside Agent Legacy.
